DOW passes 16,000 - where next?
Posted on November 19, 2013 at 4:21 AM |
![]() |
Good morning, readers. As the DOW passed 16,000 yesterday, I didn't write anything at that moment. Regular readers of my column/blog will surely know that I was one of the few to suggest the DOW would go past 14,000 - then past 15,000 (the magic of 15,000) - and only recently 16,000. I was of the view that the DOW could even do 17,000 this year, in the next five weeks or so. A thousand points in say 25 working days, is it possible? I shall wait to assess the markets further before I would commit to such a suggestion. In the meantime, I imagine a lot of punters will take some money off the table, and put into alternative markets. India SENSEX has seen more inflows in last few days. If not this year, then certainly I believe the DOW will hit 17,000 in next few months, on the proviso that the feel-good is assisted by the candy distribution, on which the panel will decide in the US this week. That's all for now. I wish joy and success to all my readers, in Netherlands, Fuzhou, California, India, Kenya, Tokyo, etc, etc. Kind regards, Duru-darshan. Caveat : Everyone trades entirely at their own risk, I am merely sharing my views. (c) Copyright 19th November 2013, Durudarshan H. Dadlani. |
Inspiration from the LDS Church, Ilford

I was glad to see Terry at the church today. He has been to the hospital. Last time he said he was going for a cancer operation. Today he looked fine. Eleven-year old Brother Joseph Omuroyi was asked to give a talk on Prayer. He had just been asked this morning, so he gave an impromptu speech : "How can we talk to our Heavenly Father? Prayer is the basic thing we do, when we get home and at the end of the day." I am sure we all pray for safety for all our loved ones. "I know my Father loves me. Without prayer I wouldn't feel that protection". Today, we were joined by four new missionaries. Sister Stoja is from Tirana, Albania. She stood at the pilpit and made her introductory speech : "I know this Church is true. I know the Book of Mormon is true. It is a blessing for me to be here. I love you." This is a great, democratic aspect about the Church of Latter-Day Saints, all members are allowed, indeed encouraged, to stand at the pulpit and give their testimonies. Brother Judy (all missionaries are normally addressed by their surnames, unless they choose to tell us their first names) comes from Utah. He says "When I was little, I didn't like the rules. But when I came to this Church, I learned that the two great commandments were these: That we should love God our Lord with all our hearts, and all our souls, and all our minds. The 2nd that we should love our neighbours as we love ourselves. If we obey these two rules, and have love in our hearts, the other commandments become automatically understood by us." My sentiments precisely. President Saltzman's daughters are visiting from Utah. "I feel privileged for the chance to address you. We are all capable of receiving revelations. The first revelation is that we all have a physical as well as a spiritual identity." Then he gave the analogy of children learning to ride a bicycle. " We are all capable of receiving revelations. We have to be prepared to do what the Lord tells us (like the subconscious, me thinks) If we are not sincere in following through, He will not tell us. He is sometimes going to Let Go as we try to ride the bicycle." Later, in the Gospel study class, we all sing Happy Birthday to Sister Grace Patterson, who is here all the way from New Zealand. It's her 21st. Happy Birthday, Grace! Sister Kathy Su, who was from Singapore, has gone somewhere else. Sister Kathy, you were missed. Also missed Elder Botcha from Andhra Pradesh. I am very impressed by the young missionaries, who have travelled from far and wide, to come and spread the message of our Saviour and Redeemer, whose example of Divine love and understanding has brought all of us together. In His name, I ask for blessings upon us all. Amen. (Written by Duru-darshan Melchizedek Priest, LDS Ilford) |
Oil price is far too high, despite accomodative policies

For a continuation of the worldwide economic Recovery, in my opinion the price of Oil is far too high - both WTI and Brent, which hit parity recently and have been both in backwardation on the far futures contracts. The holding of or reduction of benchmark rates in accommodative policies is brilliant, and the only way forward. The Australian Reserve Bank, U.S. Federal Reserve and Bank of England are setting the tone for continuation of Recovery. Mr Raghuram Rajan has been appointed Governor at the Reserve Bank of India, and assumed his post there on 5th September. In his name are coded the most fond Hindu wishes in Godhead, just as they chant Raghupati Ragav Rajaram. Hope he will set policies to utilise the various fiscal tools he has at his disposal, and help renew expansionary growth in the Indian economy. It is noted that he is a gregarious, media-friendly personality, so presumably the world will hear more about what he has in mind. Oil price at anything above $85 per barrel is too high, and will continue to slow down the world economies. When people are unable to feed themselves and their children in Yemen and other places, most of the developing world I would surmise, it is time for the OPEC nations to pause and consider what would be best for everybody. Growing unemployment in South Africa (over 25 percent) and other countries, where social security is not a state policy, does not indicate a robust world picture. It is imperative that the Oil price be reduced, for continuation of worldwide economic Recovery, which in turn will be able to sustain infrastructure growth in the OPEC and other nations. Israel with an unemployment rate of over 25 percent could do with international goodwill for their technologically advanced products, and a peace in that region can only help bring the oil price down and help the economies in that region. In a cooling off of tensions lies the way forward to peace and prosperity. Enlightened souls who help govern the policies, the duty is yours to do the needful. Kind regards, Duru-darshan. |
What's happening with the economic news?

Recently I wrote about the Mormon church, about their production of a spiritual musical called Truth shall prevail, being staged at the Chorley, Preston temple in Lancashire. My blog had over 1600 reads, mainly from Hongzhou in China. Thank you, dear readers. At the moment the most alarming news is from Zimbabwe, where President Mugabe has been re-elected, amidst complaints that the election has been rigged. His comeback has been with the announcements of implementing policies of nationalisation of mining and natural resources companies. Mr Mugabe obviously does not believe in free-market economics, nor does the devout Catholic believe in forgiveness, which he and inter-alia his nation received after he took over the white peoples' farms and handed them out to his cronies and their clans. A nation that was once the bread basket of Africa has reduced itself to a state of constant shortages of food in the supermarkets, due to neglect of a farming sector that has lost its efficiency; and loss of credibility overseas which have hampered imports. Just like Zimbabwe produced the Billion Dollar notes and failed to appreciate that their currency cannot have the status of a world reserve currency, so now President Mugabe... but wait, this devout Catholic and clever student and man of the world will surely not fail to realize that nationalising assets belonging to international companies will lose international goodwill towards his nation. And while it may be very profitable in the short term, in the long term it would be like taking a slow poison. I pray President Mugabe's good sense will prevail and he will not decide on such a brutal policy. I hope this man who likes to be portrayed on his country's postage stamps in the manner of a sovereign, follows policies which will leave his country a legacy where they can trade and interact with the rest of the world as a free market economy, for years to come. Let there not be a time when the nation once again degenerates into a period of stupor and complacency, like recently when so many years were lost due to loss of goodwill abroad and lack of scientific know-how in the country. The kind gift of globalisation has been the awareness of the spirit that only with co-operation and fairness in dealings can all the nations prosper, by developing their natural resources and exchanging them with others on a fair basis. To punish the intermediaries of such development, the international companies who operate within the boundaries and jurisdiction of every nation, would not be a welcome gesture. Mr Mugabe's pronouncements have caused market jitters in the short term. Hopefully he will heed the wise counsel of his Ministers and allow the development of his nation's enterprises continue with international know-how, expertise and capital. I have many friends from Zimbabwe at the church, and I wish them and their President well. I hope Mr Mugabe reads my words, and heeds the advise I offer. Kind regards, Duru-darshan. |

Right selection, with confidence, will restore Prosperity

Yesterday I passed a beautiful shop, Nails of Promise, in Gants Hill, Ilford. Previously, I had been to view this shop, when it was lying empty. At that time, somebody had just stopped trading there as a Training Provider . The empty premises were naturally depressive. The figures didn't stack up for me and a partner for a venture we had in mind. But yesterday when I saw the shop, I was really impressed. The proprietor, Tony Fox, who is from Brazil, has turned the shop into a beautiful salon, specialising in doing nails. Now that is a service people like, and most ladies are prepared to pay the charges for beautification. Ton told me he has a full book, busy every day, and has to turn customers away until he adds a trainee in the very near future. "Most young people don't realize that the first thing in a business is customer service : how to attend customers and attend to their needs. And training obviously takes time and attention." He took the empty shell of a shop and has done it up beautifully, with an ivory white laminate floor, complementing walls, lights and mirrors, ceramic desks, swivel chairs, sofas, table lamps and a slim chandelier. You can well imagine what sort of figure conscious customers come in here. He did all the interior decorating himself, with a budget of about thirty thousand pounds. It's taken courage and confidence to create this salon, but it is doing well, and will grow in the near future. In this location, most other businesses would not have survived, because there are other competing establishments not far away. But a Nail Salon, great promise. I draw the lesson from this that the right choice of business (or even a political candidate), backed with promise, will restore Prosperity. Kind regards, Duru-darshan. |
Period of Integration and Accomodative Policies

It was fun listening to a talk by Tony Plummer, on the theories of the legendary American investor W.D. Gann, who is fabled to have made over $50 million dollars - a huge amount in the 1950s. Gann theory, which Mr Plummer has interpreted in his new book The Law of Vibration, suggests that there are four cycles : Shock, which the world saw in 2008, followed by Absorption of Shock, which is supposed to have ended in 2012, followed by Integration, which began in 2012/13 and is likely to take us all in 2015. This period of Integration is typified by what has been confirmed by the new Bank of England Guvnor Mark Carney as well as the ECB Chairman Mario Draghi, that the banks will continue with an accommodative stance with regards to stimulus, i.e. the punch bowl will not be removed any time soon. It would seem that that will indeed become the theme of the coming months and years, at all levels, personal, political, economic, cultural, national and international, according to my reading of the situation. This is based on the rational trends that are in their infancy on the world stage. Look at the example of Turkey, where an all-inclusive accommodative stance has stabilised the situation there. Look at the situation in Egypt, where the military as guardians of the peoples' freedoms and economic well-being are supporting the new Interim President, who is a Chief Justice of many years standing and will follow policies which will benefit a wider democracy. Here again, an accommodative stance by all people, including the Muslim Brotherhood supporters of Dr Mursi, will win the day, to ensure the smooth running of this great cultural nation, so that trading and tourism continues, and continues to provide the bread and butter which all people naturally need. In this period of Integration 2012/13 to 2015, an accommodative stance by central banks and political leaders will be the rational ways to continue worldwide economic Recovery, and God-willing peace prevails everywhere, which will then lead to a growing Prosperity. Please let me have your comments as usual. Kind regards, Duru-darshan. |
Fathers Day testimonies at LDS, Ilford, U.K.

It was a glorious Sunday morning, bathed in sunshine, a bit hot but comfortable, as we prayed to our Heavenly Father and sang His hymns today, Fathers Day. A brief extract of appreciation spoken by members of the congregation is as follows :- Alicia Salami : In praise of her Father and two Grandfathers : "Grateful God has given us such a good family." Joshua Blackman : References made to Lehi and King Benjamin. "My Father has been a good Father. He has done everything for us. He has a great interest in his ancestors, looking up the family tree, etc, and telling us what principles they lived by." A good guide, with reference to family heritage. Delight Kangetsambo : "Our Dad is always supportive. Always finds time to sit with us and guide us." Mrs Jeannette Saltzman : "In America, they show ads which are public service announcements. For example, Fathers, be kind to your children." She remembered her own Father. "Children love attention, and they attention from their Father. I can remember when I was 12. I was happy to go hunting with Dad. The joy of camping weekends. My Father was the King of Make-up stories. He used to tell us bedtime stories. One day he told us the world's shortest make-up story. Father's influence does not end when we leave childhood or teens, but continues throughout our lives." Brother Mariucci : "My Father died when he was 62. He was a good guy, he was a good man." We all cheered to hear Brother Mariucci treated his Father like a friend. "My Dad was a brilliant man. He only went to church for baptisms and whatever else we go to church for. He thought I the angel was collecting insects and vertebrae; but sometimes I had scorpions waiting for him! My Dad was gifted, fixing things. In that sense we are a solid family. He used to smoke (like most French people do). His legacy lives on. I don't smoke, but I am a bit more reactive then he was. He used to be a lorry driver, and I reminisce with a smile who my Father was. My Dad was a good guy. So, if you still have your Dad, be good to him." Bishop Onaolapo : "Father was 90 when he passed away. I remember we always used to sit with him. That is something I would like to pass on to my children". All these are joyful families, supportive of one another, living by values of their Christian upbringing and faith in the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ, and they are inspiring examples for people who wish to attend the church. All people are welcome to attend the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Today we had a visitor from India, who is the Vice President at the stake in Bangalore. (There is also the first Indian stake in Hyderabad). His name is David Solomon Samuel, who is the Lead Analyst in an I.T. department of a major company, and is on a two week visit to clients and contacts. The stake in Bangalore is growing, at present it has over 1300 members, and on a typical Sunday about 120 or so attend, people who abide by the law of tithing. As joy spreads through the name and gospel of Christ, more and more people will join, and more churches will open up in India. That is the great thing about a secular state, which has freedom of religion and belief in the diversity of human living. The message of Christ only adds to the teachings of the many saints India is fortunate in having as the teachers and enlightened ones. I have gladly recorded this in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus the Christ, who is the Light and the Way. Amen. (written by Durudarshan, Melchizedek Priest, LDS, Ilford) |
Winds, be thee still.

The Last Great Prophet, a review by Thomas Sugrue It seems there are people regularly interested in the review of the above-name. This, according to a reprint of the original 1937 edition of Think and Grow Rich (with a foreward by Tom Butler-Bowden), appeared in the Herlad Tribune, in the 1930s. The book itself is entitled Mohammed, a biography, by Essad Bey, who has a few books to his credit, including novels. The above-mentioned biography and the previously mentioned review by Thomas Surgrue, have earned their names in recent history, I believe. All religionists are dreamers, who have believed and pursued a dream, as did Mohammed, as did Christ, as did the Buddha. Their distinguishing characteristic was persistence, a characteristic that is the top quality necessary for any kind of success, followed by a purpose, a plan....and action. All these revered figures had one more distinguishing feature in addition to a message of God : a message of love, preaching God's love for humanity and the unifying fact of humanity : love and honour for all, as brothers and sisters in humanity. Today, I send my message of peace and love to the people of Oklahoma, Iowa, Arkansas, Missiouri, and the other states who have seen devastation at the hands of Nature. When I think of the twisters and tornadoes (now heading for Nebraska and Texas) I imagine Christ's command : Winds, be thee still. Likewise, we should follow in the footsteps of Jesus, and say : Winds, be thee still. Kind regards, Duru-darshan. |
